There are lots of things that can be considered to support licensed trade to reopen, it’s all about working in partnership and thinking creatively. We understand that work is being done directly with government to make venues aware of the need to deregulate or relax licensing regulations to facilitate the creative use of outdoor spaces. Some of these ideas include:

  • Making spaces available to licensed premises – public realm, market stalls, side streets, pub car parks (but consider other impacts e.g. noise). Also, think of how to offer a fair rota, or perhaps charging for premium slots
  • Alternatives – e.g. market stalls, civic buildings
  • Identifying late night hot spots & plan how to manage
  • How to use and manage public realm / parks
  • Consider accessibility
  • Think through public transport & facilitating cycling
  • Initiatives to support – High Street Task Force, Purple Flag, Best Bar None, etc.
  • Other measures to support e.g. free parking
