JD Wetherspoon started the New Year with a goodwill gesture to the tune of £10,000 as they presented the money to Best Bar None (BBN), the national scheme that supports best practice in responsible retailing.
The donation follows that of Stonegate Pub Company in boosting the funds to ensure the scheme can further engage local agencies and the industry in working together to quell anti-social behaviour and provide safe, well managed premises for customers and staff.
Now in it’s 14th year Best Bar None has strong evidence that the partnership approach works. “Many police and local authorities cite a clear reduction in alcohol related incidents and crime,” said Mick McDonnell, National Co-ordinator for BBN, “The donation from JD Wetherspoon further demonstrates the commitment the industry has in supporting voluntary initiatives that have a positive impact within communities without the need for further regulation.”
Tim Martin, Chairman of Wetherspoon said “We have numerous pubs that have excelled in the Best Bar None Awards programmes across the country. A fact that we are extremely proud of. Our managers and teams work closely with the local authorities, police and peers to engender environments that attract people into our town centers and cities knowing they can have an enjoyable, safe evening in our fantastic pubs and bars. We are please to further support the cause.”
