The new portal at the Beacon Museum in Whitehaven was the venue chosen to launch the three schemes simultaneously.
Police Officers from all three areas Whitehaven, Workington and Carlisle, (the 3 towns involved), along with council officers and National Coordinator Mick McDonnell were there to meet & greet publicans from all 3 areas and talk to them about Best Bar None and the benefits.
The event was officially opened by the elected Mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie, who welcomed everyone to the event, and threw his support behind the scheme, especially in Whitehaven stating that this will only enhance the reputation of the town where a number of new bars have started to appear.
Mick gave a short presentation about BBN, the benefits of the scheme and how partnership working, all parties working together, can really make a difference. Over the course of the 4 hour event, various businesses ‘dropped in’ to pick up application packs and ask questions from the scheme reps there. The event closed around 1630. The application phase is now open and it is hoped that over 20 venues will be assessed over the summer.
