The Cholmondeley Room in the House of Lords was once again the venue for this years Parliamentary Reception where the BBN national awards are presented to outstanding schemes and individuals.
BBN Chairman Lord Smith of Hindhead opened the formal part of the evening with a welcome speech to the 180+ guests from across the country. Scheme coordinators, Industry leaders, MP’s, individual winners and members of the trade press all listened intently to Lord Smith talking about what our industry does for the country’s economy and BBN’s achievements in the last year.
He then welcomed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Crime, Safeguarding and Vulnerability Victoria Atkins MP, to the stage, who talked about the Government’s Modern Crime Prevention Strategy (MCPS) and the Local Alcohol Action Areas (LAAA). She talked about how Best Bar None was instrumental along with other organisations in creating partnerships to create safer night-time economies. She also re-stated the Home Offices continued support for the scheme.
Mick McDonnell was then asked to come up and read the citation for the Outstanding Commitment Award which was duly presented by the Minister to Natalie Dolan from Greater Manchester Police.
The next to receive an award was BBN Bolton who received the Best New Scheme award. BBN Sheffield ‘continued their run’ picking up a national award for the third consecutive year. They picked up the Most Innovative Scheme award.
The final award of the evening, the Best Overall Scheme was presented by Lord Smith to Jay McDonnell BBN Plymouth scheme chair (no relation) and scheme assessor Cat MacDonald.
After the formal part of the evening there was plenty of opportunity for the guests to network whilst having a glass of refreshment and canapés.
